Posh Nosh: Your Superbowl Menu

January 31, 2012

Ooooh, game day is coming! But first, try this I.Q. Test = Gowns:Academy Awards as _____________:Superbowl. Hint: its the only time I await these interruptions. That’s right. Notwithstanding GoDaddy commercials, its the only time of year that I actually watch TV for the ads. And because the Stillerz are not playing this year, this is more true than ever. And Madonna! Mmmm hand me my popcorn!

So here is the Brazen version of the Superbowl menu – edgy riffs on classics such as chili, guac, mac and cheese and some hot haute apps. Definitely not your run-of-the-mill Superbowl munchies but still familiar enough to make everyone feel warm and fuzzy.

Love Nuggets: Frozen Chocolate Banana Bites

January 16, 2012

Just wanted to share something I saw over at Pinterest — among the plethora of other pinteresting things. This isn’t even really a recipe — it takes so little to make this and the rewards are so great.

These are so so SO much better (and better for you) than those Dib’s — which are made of things such as artificial vanilla flavor, corn syrup, cream, partially hydrogenated cottonseed and soybean oils, monoglycerides, tapioca maltodextrin, propylene glycol monostearate, monoglycerides, and everyone’s favorite, sodium carboxymethylcellulose.

Caramelized Cabbage and Onion Soup

January 9, 2012

This soup ain’t fancy pretty but it sure is yummy.

It reminds me of a recurring theme in King Arthur stories – knight comes across scraggly, plain looking woman as he gallops through the forest and chivalry obliges him to save or marry her (or both) and as soon as he does said woman turns into delectable treat. Its not your holiday table, showstopper, ooh-ahh dish — but if you give it a chance, you’ll realize that its hiding secret goddess goodness. (See photo below.) Get past the humble plain jane bowl and as soon as you taste it, the sweetness of the caramelized cabbage and onions along with the dill-flecked savory broth is pure winter yum.

Chickpea Fries with Garlic Mayo

January 5, 2012

I know. I know. I just posted about a cleansing soup and now I turn around and post this chickpea fry atrocity. I am not trying to sabotage you. I’m trying to help you. The fact is, when you are transitioning to a more healthful way of life, you want to make sure that you don’t feel like you’re giving up all your known sources of dopamine hits and descend into despair. This puts you at risk of wagon bail. (As you progress from senpai to sensei you’ll find new enlightened ways to get those hits).

Cleansing Comforting Miso Noodle Soup with Seaweed

January 3, 2012

Now that the seemingly unending bacchanalia that started on Thanksgiving is over, I am ready for a break. And this weather has me craving for my favorite cleansing soup. It is effortless to prepare. And like a great mathematical construct, its complexity is belied by the simple elegance of its equation.
