This time of year makes me happy and anxious at the same time. Happy because of the abundance of fresh, local food available. Happy because the weather is cool enough so that I can cook and bake without making my house’s ambient temperature 105 degrees. Happy because the early dark makes me want to stay in and hibernate, and get ready with great anticipation for the new year. And a little sad. Sad because my Garfield Farm CSA is done and I received the “its the last three weeks of CSA” email from Clarion River Organics. I love my weekly “presents!” I have to confess only one thing truly stumped me in this year’s shares: garden huckleberries. The fact that I am not a bakes makes this not a surprise. I suppose I could have made some pie. Next year! I am thankful that Clarion River will be at the Pittsburgh Public Market and I can get my local, organic greens until the absolute winter cold forces me to say goodbye for a while. In the meantime, I intend to buy them by the case to blanch and freeze for the season.
SO! What better way to say goodbye to the wonderful growing season we just had than with a party where you can taste and celebrate with local growers and purveyors? On November 16, you can do just that with Farm to Table Pittsburgh’s Annual Harvest Tasting event at The Waterfront in Homestead! Its a big party with everyone from Bar Marco, to Barre, to Clarion River Organics, to Olive & Marlowe olive oils plus too many others to mention. You can view the full list here.
TO CELEBRATE I AM GIVING AWAY TWO TICKETS!
