When I was living in NY, my train was the F train, which rivals only the L train on mentions in Missed Connections. The “Flirty Train” it was known then {gag}. And urban legend had it that if you want some 15 minutes of blind ad fame on Craig’s List, stay on the first car. And make sure you don’t have stray spinach on your teeth. Someone might be checking you out, already thinking about what his witty little CL entry will be. You only get a few lines. And there’s a pretty big line between hipster hopeful and desperate. A fine line between pithy and pathetic. But in every case, it is entertaining to read these laptop leaps of faith, the ultimate cyber-screams to the universe. Its the reality show that leaves a lot to the imagination. So, it was funny to see McSweeney’s publish some choice Missed Food Connections. Person 4 Food. And how appropriate when often our relationship with food is one big “missed connection.” We watch our cooking shows, pore over recipe sites, dog ear our food magazines, then go to Applebee’s for dinner.
