There’s not much preamble required to this post except to say that THIS WEEKEND will trigger the start of a deluge of fantastic events! I’m beside myself with excitement — Pittsburgh is truly hoppin’!
SATURDAY, NOV. 15
Pure Athletex Sportsplex
119 Neely Rd. Wexford PA 15090
Join me and a host of other judges including Dr. Vonda Wright and Yummy Plants’ Rebecca Gilbert in our region’s first ever juice fest! Pittsburgh’s juice companies will be competing for honors that include Meanest Green Juice and Best Seasonal Juice. Aside from delicious juices from all our purveyors, there will be 30 vendors focused on health and wellness.
Braddock Youth Project’s Collard Greens Cook-off
11AM-2PM
416 Library St. Braddock PA 15104
After you partake of some liquid gold, head over to Braddock for BYP’s famous Collard Green’s Cook-off! How can you not go for the best bargain ever? For $5 you get all you can eat collards and sides (including the best corn bread) plus a ballot to cast your vote for the best! Curious? Here is the winning recipe last year!
SUNDAY, NOV. 16
Wigle Whiskey Homebrewers Competition
12PM-4 PM
Wigle Barrelhouse – 1055 Spring Garden Ave. Northside
How can you say no to 40 home brewers coming to compete for the best brew?!? I’m going to be one of those doing the hard job of having to judge. So so hard. Leah leads a very hard life. (And yes, the irony is not lost on me that I will be judging best juice and best beer in one weekend. I love irony!!!)
3PM-7PM
Pittsburgh Public Market & Wigle Whiskey in the Strip District
After you imbibe, head over to the Strip for Farm to Table’s Harvest Tasting where over 60 LOCAL vendors will be sampling their food and wares!
MONDAY, NOV. 17
Rest. And maybe some real “work.”
TUESDAY, NOV. 18
Pittsburgh Yoga Collective Launch Event
5:30PM-7:30PM
Pittsburgh Winery
Pittsburgh Yoga Collective was founded by Caitlin Lasky to bring the practice of yoga and mindfulness to the many diverse populations and groups in the Pittsburgh region, including underserved and at risk populations. It’s an amazing organization that I am 100% behind. Can’t wait to see all the good things that this organization will do!
Conflict Kitchen Palestinian Potluck
7PM
East Liberty Presbyterian Church
Bring a Palestinian mezza or salad, and Conflict Kitchen will supply the entrees and dessert. Meet, talk, and break bread with Palestinians from the Pittsburgh community, neighbors, and friends. If you bring a mezza you get in for free. $5 if not. Just come.
WEDNESDAY, NOV. 19
Wigle Whiskey/East End Brewing/Legume Cocktail v. Beer Dinner
6:30PM
Wigle Barrelhouse – 1055 Spring Garden Ave. Northside
Three things I LOVE in one night? It’s the only way to end the bender of events. A multi-course dinner among whiskey barrels paired with Wigle cocktails and East End beer with each course developed by Chef Trevett Hooper of Legume. BOOM.
